MP3: Gravy and the Biscuits – "Butter"

Oh hell yeah, this song is right up my alley. Gravy and the Biscuits is a new band out of Nashville that fuses blues and a little bit of hip hop into some suped up southern swag. This track screams vibe. Its got groove, its got soul, and its just flat out funky. Take a listen.

Gravy and the Biscuits – Butter

Mp3: Example – "Midnight Run" (Flux Pavilion Remix)

This song isn't the normal hard hitting track that one might expect from Flux Pavilion but it sure has some vibe. I really like the space in the bass line. It adds at "jerky" feeling yet you can still bob your head to it.

Mp3: Example – Midnight Run (Flux Pavilion Remix)

MP3: Childish Gambino vs Chiddy Bang – "Put It In Your Manners" (DJ 21azy Mashup)

Sweet mash here where Childish Gambino's "Put It In My Video" verses are thrown over the outstanding "Mind Your Manners" beat by Chiddy Bang. The conductor of this train is DJ 21AZY as he does and outstanding job separating this well mixed mashup from a mediocre attempt at one.

MP3: M83 - "Intro" (Feat. Zola Jesus)

Wow. this track is killer. Everything from the uplifting intro to the scarily spoken words to the full on onslaught of the song is just perfect. Best part? this is an INTRO to an album (thus the name "Intro"). The album, Hurry Up We're Dreaming from the French electro artist M83 is due out October 18th. All in all this a very powerful tune and makes you feel like your in an epic movie (at least for me it did).

M83 - Intro (Feat. Zola Jesus)

MP3: Jape - The Oldest Mind

This track is a little different than what I normally post but it's really hitting the spot today. It's very dreamy but it's steady. It's haunting but it comforting. It's just of of "those". The beginning starts it off right away with some sweet harmonies and if your listening with headphones you will get some cool panning effect. I don't know much about Jape but they are from Ireland and have a new album Ocean of Frequency due out the end of September.

Jape - The Oldest Mind

MP3: Oberhofer – "Gotta Go"

Here's a nice track from Oberhofer which starts out with some uniquely cool vocals but then kicks in with a huge sounding synth which makes me reminisce of the past summer. Summer for me will over in two days so I'm holding on to every new post-summer jam I can find. Although, from a scientific standpoint we still have another few weeks. Not much is known about an official release from Oberhofer but an LP is expected early next year.

MP3: Pretty Lights - "Pretty Lights vs. Led Zeppelin"

I actually had to muster up some courage to click the play button on this song because I was afraid of that this would sound like. I am a huge Zeppelin fan, they are probably my favorite classic rock band (besides maybe Pink Floyd) but that's a whole different spectrum, I could fill another blog just about that stuff. Anyways, this mash-up is just crazy. There are 7 different Zeppelin songs crammed into here. The glitchyness is just too cool and Pretty Lights made this sound HUGE. My only gripe is how deep the vocals are but that's just minor and chances are there is a reason why they are like that from a technical standpoint so I'll let it slide. I am already on my 5th consecutive listen. Enjoy!

Pretty Lights - "Pretty Lights vs. Led Zeppelin

Here's a little bonus for you. It's a previous Pretty Lights mash from a couple months ago that I particularly enjoy. I can't wait for this EP.

VIDEO: The Drums - What You Were (New Song)

I have been waiting for new music from The Drums for a long time now. Their new, highly anticipated sophomore LP Portamento is due out September 13th. Here is a video of them performing a new track entitled "What You Were" which is featured on a weekly webcast by the band. I am very impressed with this and I'm glad to see that these guys are developing musically.

MP3: Deadmau5 - Where My Keys (Original Mix)

Well first off, Summer is coming to a close and so is my hectic schedule. I'm guessing most of you probably gave up on me but hopefully I can get this up and running again. Anyways, here is a brand new track from Deadmau5, hot off the press. It's a very solid song and is rather "low key". It still hits home pretty good as it features that signature bass sound that we all have grown to love. Check it out!

ALBUM STREAM: Youth Lagoon - The Year of Hibernation

So way back, near when this blog was started, I cam across a track called "Montana". I was completely blown away by the beauty and it became one of my favorite lo-fi songs that I have ever heard. Welcome to Youth Lagoon. This album is another gem (I know I have posted like 3 albums that I have called "gems" this weekend, but seriously they are all great albums) for those who love lo-fi. Although, I really am not a lo-fi expert, but this album is just worth the post. It's such a great chill out album, its very dreamy. My only gripe is how short it is but in a way its good because maybe a longer album would be too much of the same. Anyways, I'm rambling, check out this album and pick it up on August 1st.

1 - Afternoon
2 - Cannons
3 - Daydream

Great new single from Wilco. Its a very poppy and catchy tune that warms your insides a little. I'm laying here listning to this right now and i cant help my feet from tapping. Anyways this is going to be on their 8th LP Get Well Soon Everybody so check it out!

Wilco - I Might

ALBUM STREAM: Washed Out - Within and Without

Here is another highly anticipated album brought to us by Washed Out. This album is just fantastic and really chill. We have already heard three tracks from this album entitled "Eyes Be Closed", "Echoes", and "Amor Fati". All of which were fantastic tracks which helped Washed Out build some momentum to this album. This album is fairly short only consisting of 9 tracks but its still about 40 minutes long so we don't feel cheated. I'll be spinning this for a while, most likely throughout the summer. Don't forget to pick this baby up July 12th!

1 - Eyes Be Closed
2 - Echoes
3 - Amor Fati
4 - Soft
5 - Far Away
6 - Before
7 - You and I

ALBUM STREAM: Memory Tapes - Player Piano

Memory Tapes is a single man named Dayve Hawk who pretty much does it all. We have been teased with some fantastic tracks of his over the past month or so and now is second LP Player Piano is available for your listening pleasure. This is a highly anticipated follow up to 2009's Seek Magic. Check out the songs below and also read a track by track guide that Dayve wrote up for the album. Drop a comment and tell me what you think!

Wait In The Dark
Dayve Hawk: I'm an insomniac, so I've spent a good deal of time lurking around darkened hallways, waiting for people to wake up so I can fuck/cry/argue with them. When I was little I used to lay in bed at night and convince myself that everyone I knew was gone, and I was the only person left. I thought it appropriate to write a love song from that perspective. It's a bit like being a ghost: can't touch the living.

Today Is Our Life
DH: Most of my 'upbeat/pop' songs are more like trying to be 'upbeat/pop' songs. I've always loved the contrast of Motown and other early pop records, where you sing an uplifting song about being broken hearted: the lyrics are how you feel, but the music implies hope. I usually end up working from the opposite perspective: the music is my better nature, and the lyrics are me shouting myself down with self-loathing and cynicism. You end up somewhere between a genuine smile you're trying to hold back, and a false smile you put on for a show.

When I say "We will never be better off than we are", I definitely mean the glass is half empty.

Yes I Know
DH: This is my attempt at writing a simple song. I remember reading about the early says of Doo Wop, about people tuning in to these weak little stations and hearing a kind of ethereal/spooky love song drifting back to them. I relate to that sort of sincere but also dissociative idea of music more than any 'realness'. I like the idea of looking at things through a filter, leaving things to interpretation. It can be more genuine sometimes to connect on an impersonal level.

Offers
DH: After Seek Magic, I shook a lot of hands and, in keeping with the cliché, you really begin to question the integrity of what you do. Luckily, I'm too socially awkward to ever rally get folded into anybody else's trip. I don't have to decide whether or not to play the game, because I honestly can't even get the rules straight. Most people can probably relate to an endless questioning of why you're doing what you do, whether it's what you ought to do and whether that even matters.

Humming
DH: I tend to think of five minutes scanning stations as being as valid as any song, and this was meant to be a bit of that. I think I'm always trying to make my music sound to lesser and greater degrees like field recordings. I don't want to make a song that sounds like that song you heard on the radio; I want to make a song that sounds like that moment you heard the song on the radio.

Sun Hits
DH: Another 'trying to be upbeat/pop' song. This one is even sunnier, which of course means my attitude is worse: "Life is a dream if you never wake up". This was an attempt to reign in my tendency towards sprawling arrangements and write a simple song. I was also trying to have the balls to do a big pop chorus. It's funny, but when you don't make mainstream music, singing a pop song feels the way if must have felt for older pop groups to make art records: you're afraid how it will be received. It's easier to hide between darkness and noise.

Worries
DH: A pretty resentful song... "heaven is waiting" could mean paradise is real, but of course, it can also mean "get on with it". I've had friends take some of the attitude in my songs personally, but I'm usually talking shit to myself.

Fell Thru Ice
DH: Most of Player Piano is about a personal relationship falling apart, and this is the point where I gave up. I don't want to make up, I don't want to help myself, I want to watch you suffocate... I really hate my voice, but the weakness is the point, and that's why I use it.

Fell Thru Ice 2
DH: This was meant to be a sort of soundtrack to the situation described in the previous song. Someone wandering out to the thin ice...

Trance Sisters
DH: Kind of a follow on from Bicycle [one of Seek Magic's stand-out tracks]/ If I ran off with my "little sister" in that song, in this one we're still on the street and I'm losing her. I think in general, where Seek Magic was about a sort of romantic vision of the dreamer, this record is the moment you realize that the dream is separating you from your bed.

MP3: Bombay Bicycle Club - "Shuffle"

Its great to hear new stuff from London's Bombay Bicycle Club. Heres a track that makes really want to get on your feet and dance around your bedroom. The piano intro just starts to stimulate the feeling (well, it did for me at least). The upbeat drums and vocals really light up the rest. This is song will be on A Different Kind of Fix, due out August 29th.

Bombay Bicycle Club - Shuffle by Bombay Bicycle Club

MP3: Coldplay - "Major Minus" / "Moving To Mars"

Well heres another Coldplay track and I still honestly don't know what to think. This is not the same band that I fell in love with when listening to previous albums of theirs. I also can't say thats is necessarily bad, its just different. I'd live to hear what you have to say about this tune and the "new" Coldplay. You can grab the Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall single (which includes this song as well) on Sunday at midnight, and its digital only.

Edit: The above statement was written for "Major Minus" and at the time I didnt realize there was another track out too. The other track "Moving To Mars" is more of a classic Coldplay feel on slower tracks such as "The Scientist" or "Fix You".

MP3: Kid Cudi – “Angels & Demons”

Got some unreleased Kid Cudi here. This track came from his Man On The Moon: The End Of Day sessions. The song introduces The Clipse at the beginning but we never actually hear a verse from them so this is by no means an official version, just a leak. Either way check out this short track and look for a Cudi mixtape this summer.

MP3: Washed Out - "Amor Fati"

Now this is an outstanding track! I have been out due to finals and what not and this is a great song to return on. This is the third song we have heard from Washed Out. Definately my favorite out of the three. Pick up Within and Without on July 12th via Sub Pop.

MP3: Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah - "Same Mistake"

CLAP YOUR HANDS AND SAY YEAH SAME MISTAKE

Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah is an American Indie Rock band based out of Brooklyn, New York and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They have been kind of under the radar since their last release Some Loud Thunder which came out 4 years ago. These guys are now back with a new album entitled Hysterical set to be released in the fall. The first single "Same Mistake" surfaced today so check it out and pick up Hysterical September 20th here in the states (September 12th if your overseas).

MP3: The Weeknd - "The Birds (Part 1)"

Finals are taking up a lot of time this week but luckily I finished this one early so I can throw a post up. Indie/Pop duo The Weeknd announced two mixtapes for this year and this track is off the mixtape entitled Thursday which is set to be released this summer. Rumor has it that Thursday may be out a little earlier than scheduled. For now check out the percussive track "The Birds (Part 1)" and enjoy!

MP3: Kanye West - "Mama's Boyfriend"

Ohh baby, new unreleased Kanye. Despite all of the drama Kanye West is my favorite rapper, period. This track didn't make the cut for his latest release My Beautiful Dark Fantasy. This is understandable because it didn't have that "Mad Genius" feel too it but its still an angry anthem that could have very well fit on his older albums like The College Dropout and Late Registration. This really excites me because it shows that the old Kanye West is not dead as many people have concluded, its just a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde relationship.

MP3: White Denim - "Street Joys"

Quality tune from Austin's White Denim. The vocals particularly stand out in this one as the instrumentation is rather simple, yet full. You can pick up these guys album whih was released May 24 via Downtown Records.

MP3: Kasabian - "Switchblade Smiles"

Well the new Kasabian album is now imminent because a new single has been released. "Switchblade Smiles" is a groovy, synthesiser filled thrill ride with some pretty awesome synth bass. Theres this particular "aww aww" vocal sample that really reminded me of Led Zeppelin, so this really can trace back to some psychedelic influences as well as modern electronic ones as well. All in all, this song is chock full of awesome and is worth a listen. Velociraptor! is set to come out in September via RCA/Columbia.

ALBUM STREAM: Cults - Cults (Self-Titled)

Here is the highly anticipated debut LP from Cults. These guys already released the tracks "Go Outside" and "Make Time" ("Make Time" is actually not on the album). This album is very hip and very summer. I can picture myself blasting this through a boom-box on the beach as I indulge into a nice cold lemonade. So far, this is one of my favorite albums of the year!

MP3: Blood Diamonds - "Grins"

Phenomenal new track from Blood Diamonds. This jam starts out rather distant but grows into a huge synth/string filled masterpiece. The beat also sets a nice feel and is rather catchy as the strangely beautiful vocals sing over them.

MP3: Beirut – East Harlem

Folk-rock and a nice horn section with some smooth vocals to cool off to. This track is upbeat and "bouncy" with is piano section. Beirut comes up with a pretty catchy,feel-good tune to relax to.

MP3: Coldplay - "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall"

The new Coldplay song is a lot more dance-able than previous songs. It's synth filled and very poppy. The vocals still have a classic "upbeat coldplay" feel but the song itself is almost on the verge of too radio friendly. This song was announced this past week and surfaced today. We can expect a new full length from them this Fall.

Coldplay - Every Teardrop is a Waterfall

MP3: CLAPS - "Across The Floor"

CLAPS are a minimal synth pop band from Minneapolis, MN. These guys sent me their new song entitled "Across The Floor" which is going to be on their upcoming LP Wreck. This song has very cool bass rumbling  in the background as a playful lead synth prounces around over the mix. The vocals are very solid and have some echo making them rather powerful yet controlled.

REVIEW: The Pear Traps - The Pear Traps EP

Check out The Pear Traps who have recently put out their self-titled EP. "Formed in 2009, The Pear Traps are a 5 piece band from Chicago who's music mixes lo-fi garage rock and alt-country." These guys dropped their new EP past my inbox, so here it is. You can stream the song "Come Home" here and you can go to the Bandcamp link to check out the rest of the EP.

The EP starts out with "Come Home" (which is available for free download). This song blends the eerie, echoing vocals with a base of alt-country style guitars which are accompanied by lead guitar shimmering in the distance.  The next song, "Honestly" starts out with some firm chords but breaks to a light, fluttering guitar riff. This song has less of that lo-fi "noise" but theres distant sustained chords which offer a really cool effect. "Predictable Kinds of Thoughts" starts out with a great guitar arrangement which returns for breaks. The drums in this are really cool because when there are heavy cymbol crashes its blends and adds to that "noise" factor. When this song ends is when it actually hits me and my ears want to be filled with beauty yet again. "Safer Than You" is a nice short song where the bass really stands out and is more noticeable than in the others. The end starts to get a lot of layering going on which drives us into "They Are Not Ours". This song starts out with just a guitar and those distant, fuzzy vocals that we have been enjoying then it builds up to a full band instrumentation to ride it out. This brings us to the final song, which happens to be my favorite. "Answer" starts with a very calm beginning which leads me to die down but I actually jumped when the song kicked in. A little after the 2 minute mark is where I start to really love this track because they kick it up a notch and it starts to get unsettling. The fuzz that the guitar creates is very cool and the end just drops down to a stand still as the final flame burns out.

All in all, I really enjoy the beauty that lo-fi creates. There is a lot of layering going on which blends into steaming pot of soup. Theres never anything overpowering, even the vocals are distant. The vocals are great because they serve more as another instrument rather than a center of attention. This is really as lo-fi as lo-fi gets, but thats what makes it so beautiful.

MP3: League - "Golden Maps"

Very catchy track from London's League. The beat is very hoppin' and the synth is pretty luscious. Another cool track to add to you "Summer 2011" mix. These guys released a track earlier in the month entitled “Two Wild Hearts” but an official release has not been confirmed at this time.

League - Golden Maps

MP3: Mr. Little Jeans – “The Suburbs” (Arcade Fire Cover)

Well, this basically blew me away because before I listened I was expecting a jangly, acoustic cover of this song. Instead, I uncovered a totally new song thats dreamy and synth filled. The vocals are creepy and top notch as they fit perfectly into the song. Norwegian singer Mr. Little Jeans (Theres actually no "Mr." involved with the song) has proved that she is an artist to look out for.

ALBUM STREAM: Bon Iver - Bon Iver (Self-Titled)

Bon Iver hits us with their new self-titled LP and its absolutely a masterpiece. Justin Vernon is simply a genius and his voice is smooth and silky. This album is just a beautiful collection of music but its different from 2008's (2007 if counting self-release) For Emma, Forever Ago. This album features more instrumentation and vibrant electric guitars rather that the silky acoustic foundation on the previous album. After For Emma, we got Blood Bank EP which offered us some more great Bon Iver but now, in 2011, we can again indulge ourselves in another full length album. Definitely give this a listen and pick it up June 21 via Jagjaguwar.

MP3: The Wombats - Techno Fan (Afrojack Remix)

The Wombats from Liverpool have been producing some great hits from their last two albums, the latest which came out last month was call This Modern Glitch. That album featured this song, "Techno Fan", and now it has been remixed by Afrojack. He turns this song in to one banging club song with some real rubbery synth action!

ALBUM STREAM: Arctic Monkeys - Suck It and See

Arctic Monkeys have been the top British rock band for a while and I finally got my hands on the new album  that I've been anticipating. This album is a follow up to their previous release Humbug which was a very impressive album that received good reviews overall. Matt Helders said “Some of the songs are a bit more instant...A bit more poppy, certainly than ’Humbug’ was." So check it out and if you like it be sure to pick it up June 7th (June 6th for those in the UK) via Domino Records.

1 - She's Thunderstorms
2 - Black Treacle
3 - Brick by Brick
4 - The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala
5 - Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair
6 - Library Pictures

9 - Piledriver Waltz
10 - Love Is A Laserquest
11 - Suck It And See
12 - That's Where You're Wrong

ALBUM STREAM: Death Cab For Cutie - Codes and Keys

Death Cab For Cutie is a staple in any Indie diet. This is their 7th studio release and it offers us that great Death Cab flavor but is much more musical. This album is different from the others because theres a lot more instrumentation and its more of a "full band" effort. I have always been a big Death Cab fan and this album does not disappoint me one bit so stream this album below and pick it up next Tuesday, May 31st.

1 - Home Is a Fire
2 - Codes and Keys
3 - Some Boys
4 - Doors Unlocked and Open
5 - You Are a Tourist
6 - Unobstructed Views

8 - Portable Television
9 - Underneath the Sycamore
10 - St. Peter's Cathedral
11 - Stay Young, Go Dancing

MP3: The Rosebuds - Woods

"Woods," is featured The Rosebuds' upcoming Merge release Loud Places Fly Low. The steady piano in this song pushes the floating guitar chords along in this beautiful tune. Ivan Howard belts out his vocals which I assume to be about divorce and tops this off making it a fine listen.

The Rosebuds - Woods

MP3: Arcade Fire - “Culture War” / “Speaking In Tongues” (ft. David Byrne)

Arcade Fire's Grammy winning The Suburbs was a fantastic album that skyrocketed their popularity level. 2010 was definitely their year and now, on August 2nd they are releasing a deluxe edition of the album. The two songs below are going to be bonus tracks on that album. These tracks really supply that Arcade Fire feel and stand up with the other tracks on that album.

MP3: Digitalism - "Forest Gump" (Feat. Julian Casablancas)

First off, sorry for not posting the past few days, I haven't had access to my computer since Tuesday night. Anyways, here is a cool track with a Digitalism and Julian Casablancas  (The Strokes) collaboration. This track has a hard hitting synth with a powerful beat while Julian offers his scattered style of vocals. You can check out I Love You Dude on June 20th via Cooperative.

MP3: Light Vibes - “Wish We Had”

Wow, this song is just simply amazing. I recently just found this duo who go by the name of Light Vibes although they only have two songs floating around the Internet. They are working on a full length album, so i cant wait for that. For now, check out this glimmering song.

Light Vibes - Wish We Had

MP3: Two Door Cinema Club - "Something Good Can Work" (RAC Remix)

Well, in case you ever wondered (and i know you have :P), Two Door Cinema Club is my favorite band. I will basically post anything thats related to them as long as it doesn't disappoint me. This remix does not disappoint me, although it does change up the feel of this optimistic, bright song. The song changes into a dark feeling with the underlying instrumentals. The instruments and the vocals clash but in a way that only RAC could make work.

MP3: Cosmonaut Grechko "Coloreye" + "Singin" (Blue Satellite Remix)

Russian producer Cosmonaut Grechko has released his new EP Alaska 2100 today and it nothing short of amazing. Down below are two songs from the EP, one of which is a remix of "Singin" featuring a remix artist by the name of Blue Sattelite. The other track is just Cosmonaut doin his thing and its called "Coloreye"

MP3: Cults - "Make Time"

Heres a song from New York's Cults. Its very catchy with a groovy, yet simplistic guitar part that keeps your head boppin'. They have a self titled debut coming out June 7th but this song actually won't be on the record (Although it should be)

MP3: Bon Iver - "Calgary"

Ahh, new Bon Iver. These guys have been riding great success with 2008's For Emma, Forever Ago  and 2009's Blood Bank EP and now the new self titled album is going to be released on June 21st. The first single off of the album is called "Calgary" and its a nice smooth, soft song and Justin Vernon's vocals are outstanding. Listen to the song below and pick up that album in about 5 weeks.

MP3: Deadmau5 – Raise Your Weapon (Madeon Remix)

This song has been floating around blogs today and they all have this weird radio intro, well luckily i found one that didnt have it. Either way this track is just stellar, I cant stop replaying it. This is probably the sickest thing you will listen to today.

MP3: Kyle Andrews - "Lazer Tag With Imaginary Friends"

Heres a cool track thats very playful and has a cool synth hook along with some great vocal work. The chorus is also very catchy and the acoustic guitar blends nicely with the electronic aspect of the song. You can pick up Kyle's new album Robot Learn Love on Elephant Lady, August 16.

MP3: Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks (Gigamesh Remix)

I must admit, Foster The People may be my new favorite group. Thats a pretty bold statement, but what I am sure about is the huge impact that these guys have had on music while just riding on one EP. The new LP torches is due out later this month and that album could make them kings of the world. Now Pumped Up Kicks isn't a new song, but I recently stumbled upon this remix which I absolutely love. It adds an 80's vibe to this killer song. So enjoy this remix and be on the look out for Foster The People!
